ImageI was watching an old episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, specifically a scene with Geordi LaForge, the 24th century blind engineer who wears headgear called a VISOR to be able to see, when I was also browsing the web. I was then surprised when my eye fell on an article on Geenstijl.nl, a Dutch weblog, accompanied by a picture of the same Geordi LaForge. With help of links in the article (and the Google search engine itself, of course), I was able to gather that Google has been working for a while on their first step into wearable computing: augmented-reality glasses.

The project they've been working on is called "Project Glass" and last Wednesday, the company's laboratory shared a post on Google+, showing in a video what is supposed to be possible.

ImageWhen wearing the glasses, you'll have a heads-up display, like in some modern fps-games, with access to pretty much everything your smartphone can do. Calling, texting, looking up stuff in google, finding your way with gps, sharing your location, and much more. Anyways, that's what they're hoping it'll one day do...

Because this video is found on pages you can't get to from within China without help via proxy, I'll post it here. I'm sure Chinese microblogs and videosites will host this soon, too. But in the mean time, have fun!

Futurama watchers: Yes, MomCorp's eyePhone comes scarily close...

How can you your eyes to type and scroll down and up and stuff?
The news is also posted on Yahoo! news.
(Haha, I just turned in this piece of news for an after-school HW assignment.)

I think, after watching the video, that you're supposed to speak your commands, so scrolling through lists is probably by saying "next page", "down", or "scroll" or something like that.

We'll have to wait for more news from the Google[x] team...

Would be bad when you're on your bike or in your car on the road and then suddenly you get spam popups.

What if the glasses don't detect your voice or what you're saying? Like "Accept the video and send him a message saying that 'See you at the cafe' and then delete my spam emails and then check the weather and then call home..."?

And what if the background is very noisy and you're a very quiet person?

Catherine: I think you shouldn't overload the headset. One command at a time!

Rachel: The microphone close to your ear should pick up most of what you're saying and a lot less of your surroundings. Otherwise, go out, or speak up!

Why don't they just make a transparent Android or something? It would be faster.

Actually, my guess would be that this is running a transparent Android system. Of course changed so you won't be staring at your wallpaper and clock all day long
